Ruth Hooker School Breakfast Program
During breakfast we form a close bond with the students. They not only get a nutritious breakfast but they are learning good manners and we teach about food groups and how important these things are to their diet.
Our school is in a low socio-economic area and the teachers have always felt that students were coming to school hungry. After surveying teachers they reported a difference in students’ behaviour and ability to concentrate.
Currently our students are becoming more involved in menu planning- serving others and clean up. This gives them a sense of pride and connection to the school.
